Despite drop in wounded and death rates compared to previous years

Health sectors and university hospitals received more than 2000 intoxication cases along last year, 3 of which died, whereas 62 people died from scorpions’ stings among an overall of 48000 hit people.




Dr Mohamed Wahid, director of prevention at the Ministry of Health revealed to “El Khabar” that 60% of collective intoxications have been recorded in restaurants, whereas the rest 40% have been recorded in family meals, like weddings. Dishes which have been served in collective restaurants represent 39.5 % of poisonings, followed by the products used in sweets, cooling and baking industries with 35 %, whereas milk and dairies represent 18 % of the sources of food poisoning.

Statistics recorded last year show up a mere dropping, compared to previous years since the number of poisoned people in 2004 for example reached 3535 caused the death of 5, whereas in 2005, 8 people died among 3425 intoxicated.

On another hand, 48 519 people have been hit by scorpions stings along last year causing the death of 62 people which indicates also a mere drop in the number of dead since 1999 in which 150 people died.
