Arab security experts dealt last week-end with the latest security developments in Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia that mirror a growing threat of Salafist Jihadist organizations allied to al Qaeda. Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb Organization was under security expert’s scrutiny as it has become an attractive pole to extremists. The 10th session of Arab security officials held on June 13 and 14 ended up by the issuance of a communiqué calling Arab states to elaborate a name list of terrorist organizations and chiefs of organizations meant to be shared among all Arab countries. The communiqué called Arab governments to strive within UN Security Council to issue a resolution obliging Internet providers to close down web sites airing how bombs are manufactured, training to use weapons and terrorism acts apology. The communiqué further recommends Arab states to issue fatwa “incriminating subversive fatwa as they prompt terrorism”. It also urged for the leveling religious institutions as regards awareness rising concerning terror plague. The last day of the conference witnessed the convening of three task forces including 5 Maghreban bordering countries facing al Qaeda threat more than whomever Arab state. The meetings scrutinized ways and means of cooperation and coordination to cope with the porous borders. The 10th conference submitted recommendations to the forthcoming Arab home affairs ministers due to be held later in January 2008. | ||||||||||||||||||
