Striker lawyers organizing a sit-in tomorrow

Lawyers-judges tensions escalation:

Rouiba tribunal underwent yesterday dangerous developments between defendant’s institution and a judge who ordered to put lawyer Merouane Azzi, coordinator in national reconciliation dossiers follow-up cell in Algiers court in prison when fulfilling his missions.

In this regard, a set of Algiers and Tizi Ouzou lawyer union’s members organized a sit-in before the court headquarters to protest “the dangerous trespass to lawyer’s profession”.

On another side, Algiers lawyer union is to organize today a meeting to examine Merouane Azzi incident, which intervenes in a time the relation between defense institution and judges is getting worse. In this respect, Algiers lawyer union decided to organize a sit-in before Algiers court new head office, whereas prosecutors received a ministerial instruction that orders the postponement of criminal cases to next month instead of the next criminal session.

However, the accused have been told to seek lawyers among their relatives to face the strike.

A judiciary source told El Khabar that prosecutors were instructed to postpone the current criminal session terrorism related cases to early July. The ministerial instruction emphasized on the need not to put back the cases to the next criminal session. Except terrorism folios, the same source mentioned that common law criminal cases have been postponed to the next criminal session.
