Algérie Telecom: 16 million customers expected by 2010

Algérie Telecom group is expected to increase the number of its customers up to 16 million in 2010; 9 million of which in the mobile telephony field and 7 million in fixed one.

The group is generalizing, in parallel, optic fibres use. Kamel Rahmaoui a senior official in Algérie Telecom said: “the public telecommunication company is oriented into credit, in order to finance its high tech imports, mostly “wimax” which would offer a high debit internet connection thanks to the use of optic fibres, giving up thus the use of satellite dishes.”

Mr Rahmaoui added in his intervention during the second national fair of communication technologies which ended yesterday in Annaba that several satellite channels among which ART requested the services of AT in order to air some of its programs from Algeria.

It is worth noting however that the company possesses 7 ground-stations, 400 million phones, and 164 trade agencies, as well as 113 trade departments and 49 thousand multi services kiosks in addition to a two-way hinge network of about 6 thousand meters.
