Corrupt local elected condemned for many charges

Security services led inquiries in many municipalities nationwide ended up by condemning 700 local elected officials among 1400 prosecuted ones, according to judiciary sources.

Verdicts against the accused range between fines, prison with no remission, for public fund squandering, miss management, real estate pillaging and unlawful transactions.

Prosecuted local elected number reached 1174 nationwide before 2006 end, among them 612 were condemned and 375 are under investigations so far, yet the number of condemned shifted this year to 700 according to El Khabar sources.

It is worth noting that whenever the elected mandate end draws near, abuses and law breaches increase especially when it comes to real estate and micro projects, according to El Khabar correspondents reports elaborated in many municipalities in great wilayas namely Annaba, Algiers, and Oran, the fact that mirrors the increase of prosecuted local elected within next months prior to local elections.
