Supervisors of the concerned project met yesterday in the ministry of transport headquarter in a symposium in which they insisted on the need to rehabilitate and develop railways network through modernising and maintaining the 4300 km current network which is divided into northern and southern networks. Sources in the ministry do not exclude getting help from international expertise in this field. The project includes also setting electric railway network which has already begun in Algiers peripheries like the line linking Algiers to Thnia as well as El Harrach to El Afroune with a budget of 12 b dinars -equivalent to 160m dollars. In this regard electrifying railway network projects manager Mr. Abdelouahab Aktouche recognized that only a small part of the network has been electrified (Annaba to Souk Ahras line); expressing the need for higher electricity tension availability to avoid power outage. It is worth to mention however that the government is intending to construct a new electric railway network of 3553 km as to reach 6553km by 2025; 1776 km in both ways. | ||||||||||||||||||
