, setting July as a commitment reaffirmation deadline to implement agreements on prison reforms and supply estimated at 17 m Euros, which will be submitted to the European Commission in Brussels to come into force in 2008. European Committee representative in Algeria on behalf of the chairman has been optimistic in terms of the improvements recorded recently in that field. Mr Ivan Samson gave the name of “Justice2” for prisons reform project, in reference to legislation, treatment, management and rehabilitation that are included in the project, which is, according to Mr Samson, purely Algerian initiative, reducing EU’s role in funding and expertise. On another side, Ministry of Justice Secretary stated that “15 months are not enough to assess the European aid”, calling for avoiding throwing delay responsibility on beneficiary states shoulders if they are not responsible. Mr Messaoud Boufercha insisted on “high level political cooperation importance between the two parties for Algeria to promote its judicial system and get necessary knowledge on that field.” | ||||||||||||||||||
