Offensive graffiti to the Prophet on walls of a mosque in Bouzereah Offensive graffiti to the Prophet on walls of a mosque in Bouzereah

Weeks after profaning a cemetery in Batna
Tuesday Jul 03 2007.

Anonymous persons wrote offensive graffiti to the Prophet Mohamed, the night Friday to Saturday, on walls of Othman Ibnou Afane Mosque located in Bouzereah Municipality (heights of Algiers).

This incident has shaken feelings of the population and the Imam of the Mosque who stated “we are under shock.”

Security Services have opened an investigation immediately on “the crime” and sent elements of Scientific Police to the spot.

Well informed sources said that another Mosque in Chevalley Street (Algiers) has been a subject of profanation recently, but the graffiti have been written in careful English.

This incident put a number of questions, in addition to its profane and provocative dimensions to that sacred spot. Weeks ago, however, seven temples of Bouzourane cemetery in Batna wilaya have been profaned with racist graffiti glorifying French colonialism. Profaners wrote in well written French: “down Arabs”. The same phenomenon have been recorded in Annaba (eastern of Algeria), investigations revealed that the profaners were rubbers and sorcerers.
