200bn dinars allocated to public service officials wages increase

To be included in 2007 Finance Act

The financial envelope allocated to the revision of the public service salary scale is estimated at 200bn dinars after a 25% to 30% increase has been decided.

State senior officials are to benefit from a 30% increase in wages, according to El Khabar sources. Public officials wages increase dossier is ready to be reviewed. The revision results are to come into force by their adoption in 2007 finance Act.

The general director of public service Mr. Djamel Kherchi stated, on the occasion of commemoration of the African public service on June 23, “public service in Algeria is called to focus on multifaceted objectives namely the capitalization of human resources and the diversification of work relations so as to homogenize them with the state new missions”.

Noteworthy, two commissions, namely a governmental one and the other made up by the Central Trade Union UGTA, are working on the revision of the salary scale in public service sector, which commissions are to debate the outcome of their field work to come up to a compromise between the government and the trade union.
