A levelling programme in perspective

The modernization programme of customs sector will cost a hundred billion centimes. The programme includes the creation of internal information department in addition to the extending recruitment opportunities nationwide by adopting quotas system.




Corruption fight is also on the levelling agenda by implanting scanners in ports before the end of the year, according to training and human resources directors. In this connection, customs disciplinary commission considers 200 disciplinary dossiers yearly.

20 custom officers are either dismissed or demoted by one grade, 40 subject to disciplinary transformation, most of them prosecuted for corrupt conduct and forgery and use of forged documents, according to the central director of human resources in customs general department.

As for the levelling of customs sector, a statute is being elaborated in order to increase the wages by 20%. As for promotions, they are to go through exams. The statute provides for a high educational level as 48% of custom officers do not hold the baccalaureate.

Besides, quotas system has been adopted in the recruitment so as to create a territorial equilibrium. There regions are made up of three to four provinces.
