The session is to question Algeria about the international convention on women’s rights, reconciliation acts as well as associations’ accreditation and freedom of speech, a participating source told El Khabar. Furthermore, a Foreign Affairs Ministry communiqué issued yesterday mentioned that Minister Mourad Medelci is to be on the top of the Algerian delegation participating in the first session of the human rights universal periodic review mechanism. The UN Human Rights Commission has elaborated a set of questions, of which El Khabar got a copy, while the Algerian party is required answering it. The UN Commission questions are about the timing chosen by Algeria in terms of entering into force of the international convention on women’s rights to which Algeria adhered but has not ratified it yet. The Human Right Commission is to tackle this file on the base of the Algerian party’s reserves on some terms of the abovementioned convention. In this context, the commission is to question Algeria whether it has taken into account recommendations submitted by the UN months ago. The commission is also to question Algeria about racial discrimination issue in Algeria as well as the situation of foreign workers, while Foreign Affairs Minister is expected supplying the UN Commission with answers on reasons “pushing Algeria not submitting a periodic report on eradication of racial discrimination since 2003, and a report on the situation of foreign workers since 2006.” | ||||||||||||||||||
