Friday Dec 19 2008.

President Abdelaziz Bouteflika has urged energy ministers at OPEC cutting oil output in Oran meeting, in order to restore balance to global market and increasing oil prices.

Bouteflika pleaded energy ministers, yesterday, at the kick off of 151 Extra-ordinary Meeting of OPEC, in Oran, implementing their decisions, in reference to problems experienced by OPEC previously, as it has already decided output cut without fulfilling it.

President of the Republic further stressed that it is time for industrial countries to take appropriate and fair measures in terms of enchanting the best and permanent economy track. He added that the political system adopted by the West is behind the current global economy crisis. On another side, former minister and former CEO of state owned oil company Sonatrach, Abdelmadjid Attar told El Khabar that OPEC decision to cut output by 2 million barrels a day is the minimum that OPEC should have done.

Attar mentioned that such a decision is to face two main challenges, at least: firstly, how much the decision is going to be respected by OPEC member countries, and secondly, the vigour of the global economy crisis’s repercussions next year. He further stressed the importance of the access of Russia to OPEC.
