A meeting on fighting arms trafficking has been held in Rabat, considered as the first in its kind, and attended by Mediterranean countries and representatives of the EU, as well as other security officials from Algeria, Libya, Morocco, Tunisia, Mauritania, and Egypt. Maghreb Press Agency has quoted Mr. Jean Luc-Brunet, France’s representative to the EU, saying discussions between the Mediterranean countries; aim at stepping up coordination between the EU and Maghreb countries, in the framework of UN conventions over the control of arms trafficking. The EU countries have proposed ensuring trainings to Maghreb specialists and experts charged of searching and tracking down arm trafficking networks. Meanwhile, the same French official added that thanks to the collaboration existing between Algeria and some EU countries, several arm trafficking networks have been dismantled.
