EU praises Algerian role in settling Tuareg dispute

“The Algerian mediation is essential to put the peace agreement reached between the Malian Government, and the Touareg rebels into concrete form,” a report released by the EU, said.

However, the same report has not mentioned efforts made by Libya, in the settlement of this conflict, calling on Algeria to maintain her mediation role between the different parties.

In this regard, the EU has condemned the latest attack committed by Tuareg rebels against the Malian army troops, which caused the death of 9 of them. “Such an attack demonstrates that the situation is worsening northern Mali,” added the report, which praised the Algerian mediation in the settlement of this conflict. The report has called on it to make more efforts aiming at implementing the agreement concluded in Algeria, in 2006. “It is the appropriate framework to settle this dispute,” the EU Council said.

It is worth mentioning that this report has backed up the Algerian role in the settling of this conflict, through inviting different leaders of the disputed parties. As a result, all prisoners held by the Tuareg rebels had been released.
