Solidarity of witches! Solidarity of witches!

In my opinion
Thursday Dec 25 2008.

Sidi M’hmed Court, in Algiers, has surprised me, once again, with an extraordinary verdict against El Watan newspaper, journalist Salima Tlemçani and the newspaper’ CEO, Omar Belhouchet.

The victim in this case has been a supposed doctor, who tends to heal his patients with “Spell”!

The abovementioned doctor recommends his patients taking water and olive oil, and recite Koran verses on them in order to chase evil. In another words, this doctors pretends he can heal by Spell, therefore, all Muslims believe that the success of Spell requires being honest with God. Yet, to be honest with God you have to be honest with humans. And who lies to tax control services by hiding his real revenues and not practicing his real profession!

So what’s the sin of the journalist who raised this issue if the profession of Spellman is not recognized by law? Rather, the think is about political choices, and project of society that hasn’t been taken into consideration since the Declaration of 1st November 1954, and recommendations of Soumam Congress, in 20 August 1956.

However, it seems our colleague Tlemçani and her boss Belhouchet have been victims of such controversy over the project of society, of which repercussions hit educational and judiciary systems...Therefore, I don’t rule out to see witches in courts defending their colleague! I think that’s why the judge mentioned that Belhouchet and Tlemçani deserve heavier sentence than the one pleaded by the General Prosecutor!
