“I am disposed to run for next Presidentials if Algerians want me back”

Former President of the Republic, Mr. Liamine Zeroual, has expressed his preliminary approval to run for the next Presidential Elections, but on conditions. “I am not thirsty of power, but I consider myself a son of the people, if my country needs me, I will respond in favour,” said Mr. Zeroual.

When meeting a group of sons of revolution’s veterans, former President and Defence Minister, said his run for next Presidentials is not ruled out.

Amer Melah had been one of attendees told El Khabar he travelled from the central province Tizi Ouzou to Batna (home town of Zeroual), in view of calling on the latter to run for the next elections. “I am disposed to head the country, but first I have to make sure that the majority of Algerian people are in favour of my candidacy,” former President Zeroual had been quoted as saying.

Former President Zeroual, 68, has appeared in a good physical condition, the same source remarked, while quoting him as saying: “I renounced to politics in view of implementing the principle of succession in power, but, unfortunately, I realized 10 years later that this principle has not implemented, yet.”
