Wednesday Jun 07 2006.

Dr Kim Howells, the charged with the Middle East affairs and international cooperation in the foreign department in Great Britain, starts a visit today to Algeria

Coming from morocco, to give a new breath to the relationships between the two countries, especially after the difficulties experienced during the juridical negotiations between the two countries.

The visit of the British minister to Algeria comes, according to a statement issued by the British foreign ministry and which was reported by the Algerian news agency yesterday, in the context of meetings of mix ministerial committees between Algeria and Britain to discuss matters that concern the two countries. It is expected that the juridical agreements will be the focus of the discussions; especially that Howells will have high level discussions with the new chief of government, Abdelaziz Belkhadem, and the minister of the state, foreign minister, Mohammed Bedjaoui. Concordant and close to ministry of justice sources don’t rule out the possibility of the discussions defining the date of the signature of the juridical agreements, especially that they are ready as the minister Belaiz had declared.

Belaiz had already declared that the signature of juridical agreements with Britain will be ready shortly, saying to El Khabar that the four agreements with Britain are totally ready for signature, while Mr Okdan, one of Britain negotiators, had said that negotiations with Algeria had failed. Belaiz declared that experts have finished the preparation of the four agreements, which are related to organisational matters, juridical matters, persons’ movement and the hand out of criminals. Britain, in the last two years, showed huge interest to correct relationships with Algeria. Howels showed his excitement to visit Algeria and the expression of the importance that Britain is giving to bilateral relationships with Algeria and Morocco who are playing a growing role on the international scene.
