The minister of Transport, Mohamed Maghlaoui, affirmed that the company to manage Algiers metro would be known before the end of 2006, adding that its management would be ensures by a foreign company.




The metro tickets’ value will be determined by the State, he indicates.

An international invitation to tender was launched many days ago, and the management company will be chosen before the end of the year, said the minister of Transport who was the guest of the weekly forum of El Khabar, yesterday. The contract stipulates that the chosen company will be paid to manage the metro according the international standards, and the regulation authority, to be created, will have to fix the standards for the ticket value, explains the minister.

Several European companies have shown interests to manage Algiers metro, as an Italian company and many French metro companies as that of Paris. The underground of Algiers will be ready in September 2008, it will cost one billion dollars, but it is expected to be profitable a short time after it would be out in operation, the minister told El Khabar.

As far as Algiers new international airport is concerned, the works have finished but the opening date has not been determined yet, said the Transport minister explaining that it is in a test period. He however indicates the opening will be next summer. Maghlaoui says an agreement has been concluded with the Paris Airport company “ADP” to manage Algiers new airport, a four-year agreement, renewable for one year.
