Wednesday Aug 30 2006.

Former leader of the disbanded so called Salvation Islamic Army (AIS), Madani Mezrag, has revealed yesterday that he met Prime Minister Abdelaziz Belkhadem twenty days ago.

He presented to him a document about different hindrances facing the process of Peace and National Reconciliation Charter.

He has also called for extending its deadline and supporting it with honest executive dispositions and prerogatives to overcome hindrances and delay. Mezrag also commended the seriousness of the intelligence apparatus in putting in force concord and reconciliation measures. He accused people he qualified as “France Party remainders” of hampering the process through administration positions and turning it out to be mere philosophy and theory.

The former leader explained in details failures in connection with proceedings extinguishment, detainees of civil and military prisons, fired and missing people and national tragedy victims.

He highlighted the fact that the Charter is well implemented in some wilayas (provinces) such as Guelma and delayed in others, among which is Jijel. The political aspect of the charter is still frozen up to now except for the people coming back from abroad. Such cases were settled as part of a mechanism put in 2000. Mezrag has expressed his dissatisfaction about fixing a deadline to reconciliation and considered it as a bad intention exerting pressures on the process. He called for opening the deadline and keeping repressive military work. He further announced that he decided to stand for the next elections with ex-AIS leaders and some elite members of the civil society since they recovered their civic and political rights.
