The association called upon all the intellectual and spiritual leaders in the world to “withstand all attempts meant to exacerbate fanaticism, xenophobia, and clash of civilisations”. In another hand, Peace Society Movement said “the pope statements misleading”. Algerian Muslim Scholars Association called, in its first reaction, the Muslims all over the world as well as civil society organisations to “denounce peacefully and with civic sense all offences against Islam holiness and its tolerant faith pillars”. The association added that: it was deeply shaken by Vatican pope, Benedict XVI’ statements, charging Islam of being “a violent and unreasonable religion”. It wondered, in another hand, about Vatican communiqué tending to convince Muslims that they misunderstood pope statements. The Association underscored, in this context that Muslims were expecting an official apology that removes the misunderstanding. Algerian Muslim Scholars Association says that the pope statements fall within “the aggressive campaign escalation against Muslim nation already started in the White House by President George W. Bush, when he qualified Islam by Fascism as an expression of the Protestant extremist stand. Peace Society Movement criticised the statements and said they are due to a complete misunderstanding of Islam. It drew the attention that the most abominable crimes in history that took the lives of millions of people such as inquisition, slavery, crusades, the two world wars as well as fascism and Nazism ...were not perpetrated by Muslims, at the contrary, they were perpetrated by the west and the Christians, Muslims were just victims. Noteworthy that Imams, throughout the national territory, denounced in their Preaches Vatican Pope statements who pointed out that Islam propagation owes much to violence and asked the Church to apologize. These stands intervene in the context of the angry reactions expressed by Muslim scholars all over the Muslim world. | ||||||||||||||||||
