The capacity, while being competitive, remains lukewarm

Whereas World Economic Forum views Algerian competitive capacities as lukewarm despite its noticeable amelioration.




The recent Economic Information Unit as well as US International Investments Columbia Programme’s report expects direct foreign investments in Algeria to better by 2010. Even if they still rely mainly on oil and gas, Algeria is ranked among the countries which are not providing a favourable and attractive investment atmosphere.

Besides ambiguity, opacity and political instability, the State’s role in the economic field is still substantial. There are also other phenomena that weaken Algeria’s competitive capacity.

In that respect, Algeria is to record, thanks to oil, a constant investments value up to 2010, according to the two institutions report aired Wednesday.

However, Algeria’s share remains lukewarm given business and investments atmosphere, since the economic report expects investments share in GDP to reach 4.8% in 2010. It further considered Algeria among the least competitive economies on the ground of a set of macro economic and other indicators. Thus, Algeria is ranked 76 among 125 states.
