Algéria : Magistrates angered by regional discrimination

Magistrates from tribunal and courts expressed their huge discontentment towards subjective criteria adopted by human resources department in the ministry of justice in their selection of magistrates

Who would be sent abroad for courses and participation in conferences in Algeria and abroad, and pointed out, frankly, to the fact that magistrates are being selected in accordance to their region.

The letter that was sent to the president of the republic 10 days ago, and of which a copy was received by Al Khabar, mentioned that to have a chance to be part of a course or to participate in conferences and forums and with all other material luxuries are limited to a people coming from a certain region in the country. The same report, signed by many of the magistrates stated that other favours also are limited to those people, like promotions and job variations and even in punishments measures.

The letter which addressed the president of the republic in French language reads: “you, president of the republic, would agree with us that behaviours like these will cause a delay in the concretisation of state of law that you did not spare an effort in defending it, and this situation can trigger an atmosphere of discontentment and anger that can lead to unwanted consequences”.
