Algéria : Death of two prisoners in Setif and Annaba

The public prosecutor at the court of Annaba has opened a deep magisterial investigation concerning the circumstances of the death of a prisoner in the prisons of Balbouni, in Annaba, on 14 May.

In an official statement released by the court of Annaba, it is said that public prosecutor started immediately after he was informed by the death of the prisoner, investigation procedures to define death causes.

The communiqué besides reported the declaration of witnesses, prisoners detained in the same cell as the victim, saying that the prisoner in question has been undergoing medical check-ups since his first symptoms. In addition, a prisoner has died in the morning of Saturday after being taken to the hospital, in the wilaya of Setif. The prisoner, K.F., 26 years old, had severe diarrhoea according to a medical source in the hospital. Doctors and paramedics tried to save him but he refuses to get his medicines.

The general prosecutor in the court of Setif ordered a post-mortem examination to know the cause of the death. The prisoner was due to be sentenced on the 19 June under the accusation of killing his mother.
