Board of directors prepares a strategy to accompany Algerie Telecom’s privatization

The board of directors internationally leader British Telecom has accepted the decision to open an office and a branch in Algeria to be considered a regional representation later.




British Telecom had already chosen Tunisia as a seat for its activity in the region. It has also decided to create a training academy for all Telecommunications specialised fields and contribute in setting up an information and communication technologies village in Sidi Abdullah.

Mr. Arslane Chikhaoui, the Algerian British Council member, told El Khabar that a British Telecom branch in Algeria is to open the third week of November. All preparations about it have been done and authorizations from Post and Information Technologies Ministry have been obtained. The first task of British Telecom is to accompany the privatization of Algerie Telecom and to manage the different projects to be achieved by the British Group. Its role is development, training, consulting and offering expertise and support and technology accompanying.

British Telecom officials expressed reservations about the privatization choice during their last visit to Algeria. It advised the Algerian party on the necessity of taking time and opting for the development and technology accompanying for the sensitivity of the sector.
