Algeria and China signed yesterday at the end of President Abdelaziz Bouteflika’s visit to Beijing strategic cooperation relations backing up declaration meant to promote a new partnership between the two countries.




According to Algérie Presse Service, the declaration was signed for the Algerian party by President Bouteflika and his Chinese counterpart Mr. Hu Jintao with the attendance of two delegations members.

The two parties concluded also seven conventions on bilateral cooperation namely an extradition agreement, an agreement on international judicial and criminal matters cooperation, a protocol agreement on economic and technical assistance, a non-double taxation and tax evasion prevention agreement, a memorandum of understanding on industrial products quality control, a memorandum on understanding on foodstuff control as well as a civil transportation agreement.

In this respect, President Bouteflika expressed during the broader discussions taking place between Algerian and Chinese officials “Algeria’s resolve to tie strategic relations based on mutual trust and common understanding”.

Concerning globalization and Algeria’s accession to the WTO the two presidents recorded with “satisfaction” that “Algeria and China share common viewpoints” namely that South-South cooperation enhancement and re-thinking North-South cooperation in view of achieving palpable development goals likely to alleviate globalization detrimental affects.

As for Southern Sahara conflict, President Bouteflika stressed that a Sahrawi people self-determination referendum by virtue of Baker plan and in conformity of the international legitimacy is “inevitable”. The President of the Republic reiterated Algeria’s stand as regards Western Sahara conflict indicating that the think is about a “decolonisation process” that should be settled by “the international community in the framework of UN charter as well as UN Security Council resolutions.
