The annual report that is issued by the Euro-Mediterranean net of agencies of developing investment on branch of tourism in the Mediterranean countries




Classified Algeria as the weakest destination of tourism, and this despite the huge potentialities that has access to, the potentialities that are not exploited.

The report concentrated on the weaknesses and strength points of the Algerian tourism. The same report points out that poor services, the lack of professionalism, the modesty of the capacity of accommodations, the image that was painted about the situation in Algeria in terms of security and the lack of seriousness in the reforms, all these factors affected the Algerian destination.

The report issued by a number of experts under the supervision of Fabris Hatm, with the participation of the French agency for international investments, points out to the fact that the sector of tourism in the Mediterranean represents 10 % of the local net product but remains under the average in many countries like Algeria, where the sector remains unexploited considering the opportunities available. According to statistics of the international organisation for tourism, the tourism sector represents 9, 3 % of exports and 5, 9 % of the productive investments and 1, 8 of the local net product. Algeria, in terms of the percentage of tourism to the local net product is classified in the 147 place from 174 countries.

Concerning the level of employing, this sector employs more than 200000 employees and represents about 5, 6 % from the percentage of direct and indirect employment. And according to the report, Algeria received only 1, 23 million tourists, three quarter of them are immigrants. The reports remarked a slight improvement in the last two years.

Algeria’s share is still representing 0, 2 % of the tourists flux, and it summed up 105 million euros against 4, 9 billions euro in Egypt, and 3, 1 billions euro in morocco. Algeria spends on tourism 4, 8 % of the total spending in the region.
