Algeria’s Souad Ait Salem wins Rome Marathon

Algeria’s Souad Ait Salem won the women’s race at the 13th Rome Marathon on Sunday (March 18th), setting a course record of 2:25:08.
The previous record was set by Ukraine’s Tetyana Hladyr in 2006 with 2:25:44. The 28-year old Algerian athlete was followed by Hellen Kimutai from Kenya (2:26:46) and Slovenia’s Helena Javornik (2:28:53). Earlier in February, Ait Salem won the Roma-Ostia Half Marathon in 1:10:29.
Also Sunday, Jaouad Gharib finished third in the men’s race of EDP Lisbon Half Marathon, behind Kenyans Robert Kipchumba and Robert K. Cheruiyot. (IAAF, APS, Le Soir d’Algerie)
