“We cannot compel Britain to extradite Khalifa” “We cannot compel Britain to extradite Khalifa”

Because of the European Association contract
Sunday Apr 08 2007.

Justice Minister Mr. Tayeb Belaïz stated yesterday that Algeria has good relationships with the British government and that the British justice is independent and Britain free to extradite Khalifa or not.

In this connection, Mr. Belaïz added that the European warrant of arrest issued by French authorities against Abdelmoumen Khalifa is a compulsory because of the European Association contract.

Justice Minister made clear that Algeria has all the British support on the diplomatic and political scales. He further added that the favourable treatment of the warrant of arrest issued by Algeria compared to that issued by the French judiciary system is owed to the association contract bounding France and Britain.

Mr. Belaïz stated, “we cannot compel British judiciary authorities to extradite Khalifa it is free to do it”, he also gave the impression that Khalifa case is underway of inquiry in the Supreme Court as well as Cheraga court and that it is undertaken in the correct and ordinary course, noting that there will be important names in the case, as he pointed out “All are equal before the law”.

Noteworthy that the French justice has indicted Abdelmoumen Khalifa with fraud in banking transactions, money laundering and public fund squandering charge since 2003.
