Sidi Bel-Abbès citizens witnessed this week-end a dramatic natural catastrophe after Mekra river flood. Moulay Slissen was the most damaged municipality with seven killed including the Daïra chief Mr. Bourbouû Abdelkrim, 40-year old, father of three children. The toll is provisional, whilst the crisis cell is providing help to victims and assessing material damage. Moulay Slissen inhabitants expressed their anger by stoning civil protection vehicles hindering their activity, as they stated “they let us face the catastrophe alone dead in the middle of the night...Why did authorities not tell us about the danger before the rise of water level?” As for material damage, tens of constructions collapsed, in addition to harvest deterioration and livestock losses. Local authorities have to review emergency plan called Orsec on the light of what happened last weak, especially when it comes to the timely dissemination of information, as a main factor which impeded the timely arrival of civil protection services to preserve lives. | ||||||||||||||||||
