We are still backward and production will remain stopped

Abdelouahab Ziani underscored that milk production will remain stopped. However authorities are to provide with milk powder as of June, yet the problem of prices gap bridging owing to price rise in the international market, and the promised sums have not been allocated.

M. Ziani told El Khabar that a general meeting gathering milk producer’s representatives is to be held today after the meeting between trade ministry and private milk producers.

Milk powder price has reached for the first time 3035 dollars a tonne and it is subject to a lot of speculation, especially after the intervention of middlemen in addition to the huge quantities China buys and production backwardness in countries like Australia and New Zeeland. Ziani mentioned the fact that support to cow breeders estimated at 7 dinars a litre is not encouraging at all while production cost reached 35 dinars a litre. This is why support amounts should be raised to 20 dinars a litre so as to encourage cow breeders.

On another side, trade minister pointed out in a communiqué that a meeting has gathered him with milk producers and reassured them that they will recover support amounts in order to reimburse cost and market price differences.

According to the communiqué, compensation delay is owed to the fact that the operation requires the setting up of appropriate mechanisms and coordination with the concerned parties.

Trade ministry secretary general called milk producers to be responsible and recalled the need to assure market stability as well as the regular supply with milk. The communiqué further mentioned that the federation is to organise a general meeting next week with producers in order to fill them in all measures to be taken and settle amounts reimbursing and milk supply matters.
