During our visit to cities in the capital Algiers, we’ve found milk boxes empty in shops and we thought this was a sign of scarcity of that essential product, but our discussion with shopkeepers revealed that milk availability is guaranteed. We started in El Harrach where Sid Ali told us that private producers strike will not have the same impact as in the past. This being thanks to the state-owned marketing company who made milk available in all places accessible only by private producers. However, distribution remains disrupted. We went then to Colaital production unit in Birkhadem, where we met with Chahed Abdelkader who pointed out the state-owned company decided to raise production to 360000 litres as of Thursday in order to make up the gap in terms of milk supply. On another side, milk private producers decided to keep on 10-day strike which started Thursday and claim compensation reaching 20 AD for one litre waiting for the government’s compensation mechanisms setting up. | ||||||||||||||||||
