This agreement will put Algeria among the most important partners along with Russia. This deal, which is going to be signed next June, is one of the most important results of the meeting of the partnership between Algeria and European Union in Brussels. Brussels meeting had resulted, according to the statement of the meeting held on 16 May, in the guaranteeing of official European back up for the joining of the European Union by Algeria, but energy took a lion share. The Algerian party presents numerous demands in this field, first of which is the guaranteeing of the balance in the commercial and economic matters between the two parties in the energy sector after problems of direction, long term contract bills were practically solved. The two parties are preparing, currently, a context that will allow the signature in June on agreement that enhances the bilateral cooperation in energy sector, and prepare for the possibility of Algerian exporting electricity after the connection of the two nets. Plus this, the agreement enhanced the position of Algeria as one of the most important deliverers of energy, especially natural gas to Europe, where Algeria is the second most important exporter of gas after Russia, because it guarantees 25% to 30% of Europe needs. It is expected that experts will finish the document that has several matters agreed on in Brussels meeting, than it will be handed over to representatives in the EU and the European Committee plus the Algerian party. This preparation coincides the declaration of the general director of Sonatrach company of the planning of a programme for developing natural gas exports up to 85 billion cubic meters than 100 billion cubic meters, the biggest part of it is towards Europe, or through Europe towards other regions according to strategic agreements that were signed with British petroleum and Gas de France, especially the pushing forward of the project of building the two natural gas pipelines that link Algeria to Spain and Algeria to Italy.
