President Bouteflika mentioned Western Sahara case as a problem impeding the establishment on good basis of the Maghreb Union




and expressed his hope to lift the magma statue prevailing over the Union structures thanks to the direct negotiations likely to be held between Polisario front and Morocco on June 18th.

President Bouteflika underscored the need to give a new breath to Maghreb Arab Union project and that this would not happen at the detriment of the Sahrawi people right for self determination. He made clear that the Western Sahara is impeding the Maghreb Union project and the whole region’s fate depends on the solution to be found to it. In his speech on the occasion of the Toast on the honour of Nicaragua President Daniel Ortega in a visit to Algeria since Monday, President Bouteflika stressed “Maghreb Union will not be on the detriment of the Sahrawi people”, a tacit allusion to conditions Algeria may lay to re-launch the Maghreban union.

As for direct negotiations Un Secretary General Ban Ki Moon called to between Polisario and Morocco, president Bouteflika said that resolution 1754 is “likely to be a way out from the status quo”.

President Bouteflika said Nicaragua President decision to re-establish diplomatic relations with Western Sahara “a wise and daring decision as it is to better the situation course”.
